Responsibilities

SUMMARY

Directly responsible for analyzing, designing, and overseeing development and maintenance of new and existing software systems and 3rd-party API integrations by guiding, directing and managing programmers. Possesses excellent logistical, managerial and soft skills for promoting cohesive teamwork and fostering productivity.  Employee is able to envision, propose and architect software solutions according to organizational needs and requirements, resulting in well-defined implementation plans, optimized timelines and favorable outcomes.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Works directly with stakeholders to elicit and refine requirements, subsequently designing, planning, and directing the build of systems by the Development team, including testing and deployment.

 

Area of responsibility is primarily, but not limited to, member-facing systems, apps and utilities; however, this could include internal interfaces for employee monitoring and management of those same systems.

 

Possesses a thorough understanding software development using the “Microsoft Stack” of programming languages and coding environments, to be able to assist and advise programmers at every level. Maintains an understanding and competency with respect to software and other systems required to perform the duties of the position including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Symitar.

 

Possesses practical ability for recommending and directing implementations of 3rd-party APIs (Application Programing Interfaces) or plug-ins, with capability to dissect, assimilate and distill particular functionality as it relates to the needs of a project.

 

Understands the criticality of detailed API result logging and webhook use for creating automation for managing errors, fault actions, communications, leading to proactive remedies for members and departments.

 

Resolves complex production problems on any in-house or purchased software application, across multiple hardware platforms and programming languages.

 

Is skillful at leading interdepartmental project discussions and possesses the ability to work with varying personalities and temperaments to advance the Discovery process and elicit requirements, encouraging participants to consider critical omissions, while promoting a cost:benefit mentality for limiting unnecessary scope.

 

Ensures design specifications are practical and can be actioned by the development team.

 

Stays apprised of emerging development technologies and coding trends which could benefit the team and organization, to improve efficiency, time to market or achieve better results.  Makes recommendations to Supervisor regarding strategic or tactical benefits.

 

While not responsible for operational coding, the position readily provides practical coding advice, code snippets, and solution examples to demonstrate tactics and techniques to Programming staff, in a mentoring and advisory role.

 

Maintains an unbiased, objective stance on “build versus buy” comparisons, working with stakeholders to arrive at the best decision based on organizational needs, strategies and other considerations mentioned.

 

Is adept at multitasking, prioritizing and managing resource and scheduling conflicts.

 

Cultivates an interest in our business, building upon lessons learned from working with departments to develop a working familiarity for processes, dependencies, constraints, compliance, downstream effects and consequences, as they all might influence recommending a particular software solution.

 

Fosters a positive culture throughout the organization. Promotes respect and harmonious relations among accounting staff and with departments throughout the organization.

 

Ensures positive relationships with the branches, internal departments and external partners. Maintains a positive and caring atmosphere for members and employees consistent with the Credit Union's mission and philosophy.

 

Exercises strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to present complex technical information in a clear manner to peers, developers, product managers, Leadership and non-technical stakeholders.

 

Performs and assumes other duties and responsibilities as required at the direction of the immediate supervisor.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.)) from four-year College or university and minimum five (5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of formal education and experience. Three (3) years of prior management experience required.

 

 

Must possess a solid understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and its phases, including common models. 

Must have prior on the job experience or practical understanding of the following areas:  Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL); MS Visual Studio (C#); MVC/.Net Core, jQuery, HTML5, CSS3, XML, JSON, Javascript, Web Services, SOAP and/or RESTful APIs, Postman. 

Translating concepts into flowcharts and work flow diagrams. 

Other desired experience: Ajax, Angular, Bootstrap, and XSLT.
