Responsibilities

This role focuses on protecting the Credit Union's assets in bankruptcies, garnishments, litigation, and other legal proceedings. Key responsibilities include:

  • Responding to legal notifications, such as garnishments and bankruptcy filings.

  • Managing vendor relationships, attorney costs, and invoices.

  • Preparing and filing legal documents like proofs of claims and reaffirmation agreements.

  • Monitoring and documenting bankruptcy and litigation activities.

  • Assisting with collection legal recommendations and coordinating with outside counsel.

  • Reviewing and responding to subpoenas, garnishments, and Power of Attorney requests.

  • Managing foreclosures, past-due payments, and sheriff sales.

  • Providing backup support for repossession-related and general collection tasks.

  • Maintaining a positive atmosphere and staying proficient in relevant software tools.

The starting salary for this positon is $61,000 to $76,000 annually, and is based on relevant experience.  

Qualifications

Paralegal certification, preferably from an ABA-approved paralegal education program; or two years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Understands and has a working knowledge of the following:

  • Legal pleadings
  • FDCPA and the collections process from start to finish
  • Federal, state and local laws relating to the bankruptcy process
  • Bankruptcy Trustee requirements
  • Court Electronic Document Filing System
